5 Things to Do on Your Last Day Before Braces
If you are about to get braces, you are likely excited. After all, it means you are finally going to get the beautiful, straight smile you want and need. Not only are your teeth going to be straighter, you are also going to have better oral health. However, as with anything that is good for you, there are a few “don’ts” that go along with having braces.
The fact is, there are some foods and drinks that don’t “mesh” well with braces. As a result, on your last day before braces, it may be a good idea to eat these items and “get it out of your system.” Once your braces are placed, if you do eat these foods, it could damage your braces, causing you pain and extra hours in the orthodontist’s chair.
As a result, your last day before braces is the perfect time to have a “last hoorah” and enjoy all the things you won’t be able to do once the braces are applied.
Eat Some “Can’t Have” Foods
If you are going to get your braces tomorrow, consider snacking on some of the following foods, since you are going to have to avoid them once your braces are in place. Some foods to consider snacking on include:
- Seeds and nuts
- Hard candy
- Popcorn
- Crusty breads and bagels
- Pizza crust
- Taffy
- Raw carrots
- Beef jerky
Brush and Floss Normally
After your braces are placed, you are going to have to use special tools and techniques to ensure your teeth remain clean. Use your dental floss and toothbrush normally and enjoy the last good brushing before the brackets and wires are in place.
Don’t worry, before you leave your orthodontist’s office they will show you exactly what to do and how to keep your teeth clean and healthy with your braces. For now, just enjoy your last few brushes without the brackets and wires getting in your way.
Take a “Before” Picture
You’re going to want to take a few “before” pictures before getting your braces on. On your last day before braces, take a few moments to get your before photos and maybe even take some selfies. Save your favorites and then create a “before and after” book or frame. In a few months you’re going to look back at these “before”photos and see how much work your braces have been able to do.
Taking your before pictures is the first step in documenting your braces journey. Enjoy it.
Enjoy Your Day
Getting braces is exciting, but it can also cause anxiety for some people. The best way to alleviate these feelings is to take some time to enjoy your day. Plan a fun day with friends, or go to a movie. You could have your braces on for a year or longer and, while that may seem like a long time, it will be over before you know it, but take the time to enjoy yourself before getting your braces on. Thanks to new techniques and technology, braces are virtually pain free, but you are going to have occasional discomfort, especially after getting your braces adjusted. Your orthodontist will discuss everything about the braces when they are applied so you don’t have to worry about that now, just kick back and relax.
Imagine Your Beautiful, Healthy, Straight Smile
The final thing to do on your last day before braces is to imagine how healthy your mouth is going to be, and how beautiful your smile will be after your braces have been removed. After the whole braces process, you are going to have the perfectly aligned smile you’ve always wanted.
